Are you interested in wearing contact lenses? Are you tired of having to keep up with your glasses? Chances are you might be able to benefit from wearing contact lenses. Since everyone has unique eyes, we will not know which lenses are best for your eyes until we examine your vision and ocular health. After we have checked your vision and ruled out any eye health issues that may contraindicate wearing contact lenses, we will go over the various options and recommend a specific contact lens. Our contact lens technician will go over proper insertion and removal of the lens, along with how to properly clean the lens.
At Vani Vision, we strive to have the latest in soft contact lens technology so that we can fit our patients with the most breathable, comfortable contact lenses available. Take a look below to learn more!
Breathable Contact Lenses
The newest type of soft lens is called a silicone-hydrogel lens. Examples of this type of lens include, Acuvue Oasys, Air Optics Night and Day, Bausch and Lomb Purevision 2HD, and Coopervision Biofinity. These lenses are almost 5 times more permeable to oxygen than the previous generation of soft contact lenses. These lenses also offer increased moisture retention and comfort.
Daily Disposable Contact Lenses
This type of contact lens is gaining popularity because of safety, ease of use, and comfort. There is no care system necessary and each day you are able to insert a brand new, clean contact lens for clear and comfortable vision. This category is great for young contact lens wearers, people looking for ease of use, or the occasional contact lens wearer.
Contact Lenses for Astigmatism
Contact Lenses that correct for astigmatism (optical distortion) are called “toric” contact lenses. New technology enables us to fit patients with even large amounts of astigmatism with soft contact lenses. There are advantages and disadvantages of toric lenses and we will be glad to discuss these with you during your eye exam.
Bifocal/Multifocal and Monovision Contact Lenses
New multifocal contact lenses may allow you to put away your progressive/bifocal eyeglasses or free yourself from reading glasses. Monovision is when one eye is corrected primarily for distance vision and the other primarily for near vision. Although it sounds strange, almost 70% of motivated patients can adjust to this type of contact lens wear. Decreased night vision and decreased depth perception are disadvantages to these two types of contact lens wear.
Orthokeratology
Orthokeratology is a revolutionary non-surgical procedure that eliminates the need for glasses or daytime contact lenses. This treatment improves vision by gently reshaping your eye WHILE YOU SLEEP using specially designed therapeutic contact lenses. The specially fitted lenses are inserted at bedtime and removed in the morning. After the lenses are removed; you will have clear, sharp, natural vision during waking hours.
This safe and effective treatment can correct near-sightedness (including high prescriptions), farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia (blurred near vision). Studies such as the Longitudinal Orthokeratology Research in Children (LORIC) and Retardation of Myopia in Orthokeratology (ROMIO) study in Hong Kong are showing that orthokeratology reduces myopia progression. Orthokeratology is also a great alternative to LASIK for those who don’t want the risk or are not ready for surgery. Please visit www.okglobal.org for more information.
